About Alpine Ice

Hi.

I'm Alpine Ice founder, owner, sculptor, Paul Wertin and I've been creating ice designs and carving ice for Colorado Rocky Mountain events and gatherings for the past 15 years. With a Fine Art degree from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, I believe that education is a never-ending process. Each new piece is an opportunity to explore shapes, form and function with the client - every sculpture is unique, every sculpture has a different audience. Ice is the most exciting sculptural medium I have worked with - it is both strong and forgiving, and is always reacting to its environment.

I've lived in the Vail Valley since 1995 teaching art classes, rock climbing and skateboarding to kids, and teaching snowboarding to all ages at Beaver Creek. I worked with the VRD Youth Services department for 4 years operating the former Teen Center in Lionshead and the after school program at Red Sandstone Elementary... I am still shocked to see 3rd and 4th graders from that time all "grown up"! I was born in Anaheim, California (right next to Disneyland). In my spare time I like to ride my mountain bike, play rock and roll music on my guitar, rock climb, snowboard, explore desert canyons, and surf. Aspens are my favorite tree to look at, but Ponderosa pines are my favorite to smell.
